Slay Magazine

Slay Magazine is a speculative editorial project that reimagines the aesthetics of early 2000s Italian teen gossip magazines through the lens of contemporary critical theory. Centered on the fictional trend of “Succubus Chic,” the magazine blends Y2K tabloid visual language with subversive femininity, exploring themes of performative identity, hypersexuality, and media spectacle.

Drawing inspiration from both pop culture mythology and feminist discourse, Slay uses satire, collage, and sensationalist headlines to critique and celebrate the construction of female archetypes in the public eye. The project merges graphic design, fashion imagery, and critical writing, positioning itself as both an homage and a disruption of nostalgic media formats.

To create Slay Magazine, I combined skills in art direction, editorial design, visual research, and creative writing. I styled and designed each spread to emulate 2000s Italian teen magazines while embedding subversive themes. The project showcases my ability to merge critical theory with bold, culturally informed visual storytelling.
